SIF took part in a roundtable hosted by Sikhs in Scotland yesterday in the wake of the Mumbai attacks and the vigil held on Sunday.
Unfortunately I missed most of it due to media commitments following the Glasgow Airport verdict. Taking part though were a variety of faith communities, and here’s the statement that the participants arrived at:
We, as youths of all faiths and none in Scotland, condemn terrorism in all its form and agree that the loss of innocent life is an act of inhumanity and is abhorred by all our religions and moral values.
The perpetrators of these atrocities have no place in our faiths or our communities.
We, as young people, encourage popular participation in the political process and engagement with civic society.
Too often the focus is on our differences when we should focus on our shared values which unite us.
We will not allow these attacks to intimidate our society or divide our communities.
