You may well have received a text message from a friend recently urging you to complain about Galaxy FM’s alleged remixing of Surah Fatiha (the opening of the Quran, recited in every cycle of prayer) with music.
You’ll have been urged to “defend Islam and the Quran” from this outrage.
It all sounded a bit unlikely and indeed it turns out to be untrue. What was broadcast was a Busta Rhymes song called Arab money. You can see that there is no Qur’an contained in the offending material here.
Despite not producing any of this, Galaxy FM have nevertheless issued an apology to anyone that was hurt by it.
It goes to show once again the need to check facts before issuing calls to action.
An apology from Mr Rhymes would be welcome though – for offences against music, good taste and our ears.
