The forum kicked off in earnest today. Our day began though with a breakfast meeting with the head of Khazanah Nasional, the sovereign wealth fund of Malaysia.
The opening ceremony contained speeches by some of the assembled state leaders and representatives. These included the Presidents and Prime Ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia, Yemen, Somalia, Bahrain, Morocco and Qatar. Indonesia President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono hosted a gala dinner in the evening.
Highlight of the programme today for me was the energetic moderating of Christopher Graves, CEO of Ogilvy PR Asia & Pacific.
Substantial exploration of the key themes of this year’s WIEF – food and energy security & the global financial crisis – will take place tomorrow.
Some of the media coverage of the WIEF – FT, BBC, IOL, AFP
